{Meanwhile, Mr Harrison’s office, Langley, NASA}
(Mr Harrison) [Anxiously] [Agitatedly] Yes Mr Webb, I understand,
the Russians ARE ahead of us in the space race so far, but don’t
worry, we’ll catch up.
(Mr Webb) [Scoffs] Huh, when?
(Mr Harrison) [Sigh] Sigh.
{Meanwhile, Hampton Virginia Highway, 1961}
(Dorothy Vaughan) [Asking] Katherine? Katherine! MARY!
KATHERINE TURN THIS BROKEN CAR ON! HELLO?! SOMEBODY!
(Mary Jackson) [Commanding] Katherine! Turn the car on so

(Katherine Goble) [Responding] Okay, Okay! I’m not deaf.
(Mary Jackson) [Scoffs] Well, sometimes I wonder.
(Mary Jackson) [Impatient] We are about to be late for work.
(Dorothy Vaughan) [Responding] Well, you're welcome to walk the 160 miles.
(Katherine Goble) [Adding] OR ride the bus.
(Mary Jackson) [Responding] I’ll do neither, I’ll hitchhike.
(N.R) Suddenly, a police car approached them…..
(Mary Jackson) [Normally] No trouble in a broken down car owned
by us.
(Katherine Goble) [Irritated] Shush!
(Police Officer) [Commanding] Ahem, well, not such a good place
for you three to have car trouble.
(Mary Jackson) [Sarcastically] Oh, I am so sorry, my lord.
(Police Officer) [Angry] Are you being disrespectful?!?!
(Mary Jackson) [Normally] No sir.
(Police Officer) [Asking] Do you have your work cards?
(Katherine Goble, Mary Jackson, & Dorothy Vaughan) [Responding]

(Police Officer) [Impressed] Well, I’ll be! All three of you work at

(Katherine Goble, Mary Jackson, & Dorothy Vaughan) [Responding]

(Police Officer) [Wondering] Have you ever met mercury seven?
Those gentlemen are the best astronauts, and so far, the only ones we got!
(Katherine Goble, Mary Jackson, & Dorothy Vaughan) [Agreeing]
Yes sir, we work with those men all the time!
(N.R) The Officer looks up at the sky….
(Police Officer) [Grimly] Those Russian Sputnik spy satellites are
watching us right now.
(Police Officer) [Grimly] We got to put a man up in space and on the moon before the Russians do.
(Katherine Goble, Mary Jackson, & Dorothy Vaughan) [Agreeing]
Yes. Definitely.
(Police Officer) [Continuing] Well, you fix your car and head to
work now, I imagine that you're running late.
(Katherine Goble, Mary Jackson, & Dorothy Vaughan)
[Appreciating] Thank you Officer.
(N.R) They head to work…….
{Meanwhile Mr Harrison’s office, Langley, NASA}
(Mr Harrison) [Frustrated] Mr Stafford, are you telling me that we
don't have anybody who can handle analytic geometry?! In this
entire building?!
(Mr Stafford) [Sadly] That’s what I’ve been told sir.
(Mr Harrison) [Commanding] [Enraged] Get me another
mathematician that can handle analytic geometry. NOW!!!!!!
(Mr Stafford) [Meekly] Yes, sir.
(N.R) The call goes out to Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson,
and Dorothy Vaughan………
(Ms Mitchell) {Commanding] Go to the main NASA building. It is up ahead. Go, and do what your supervisor says. Your supervisor is 3Mr Al Harisson, and DON'T, I repeat DON’T,expect him to talk or be happy with you. Just do your work and don’t say anything.

(Russian Reporter) [Triumphant] We have news that the Russian
Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin has become the first man in space.
(Mr Stafford, Mrs Mitchell & Mr Harrison) [Disappointed] Aw
man!!!
(Mr Harrison) [Commanding] [Determined] All right guys, in a few
weeks, Alan Shepard will be launched. So let’s do the math.
(NASA workers) [Focused] [Muttering] Okay, um..4 sined 3

(Alan Shepard) [Excited] Okay CAPCOM, I am ready to lift off!

(Alan Shepard) [Determined] Look, I’m cooler and calmer than you. Why don’t you fix your little problem and light this candle?
(CAPCOM) [Responding] Roger that Freedom Seven! (That's the
name of the spaceship)
(CAPCOM) [Adding] DC power will be added to the capsule, DC
power will be added to the capsule.
(Mr Countdown) [Excited] T-minus ten, nine, eight, seven, six,
five, four, three, two, one, BLAST OFF!! Engines have ignited and
the trajectory is A-okay! The fuel is G!
(Crowd) [Cheering] Woohoo!
(Alan Shepard) [Happy] Pitch 88, trajectory is good! And what a
beautiful view earth is from above!
(CAPCOM) [Cheering] Okay your status report?
(Alan Shepard) [Serious] Pitch 45385920385, trajectory is still
okay, and fuel is 50 percent.
(Alan Shepard) Um, CAPCOM, I am now reentering the atmosphere!
(S.T) zzzzaaaappp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Alan Shepard) [Happy] My condition is good!
(CAPCOM) [Cheering] Woohoo!!! Yes!!! Success!!!
(President Kennedy) [Happy] For the eyes of the world look into
space, to the moon and to the planets beyond. And we have vowed that we shall not not see it governed by a hostile flag of conquest, but by a banner of freedom and peace. We set sail on this new sea because there is new knowledge to be gained, and new rights to be won. (N.R) Alan Shepard came back safe, but now it was Gus
Grissom’s turn to shine…..
(Gus Grissom) [Determined] All right, CAPCOM, I am ready for
liftoff!
(CAPCOM) [Determined] Roger that, Liberty Bell 7!
(Mr Countdown) [Happy] [Excited] T-minus 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1,
(Gus Grissom) [Happy] Liftoff, and the clock has started!
(S.T) Booooooooooooooom!!!!!!
(Gus Grissom) [Calmly] Okay CAPCOM, I am ready to splash down in the water for landing, in three, two, one!
(Gus Grissom) [Panicked] My space capsule is sinking! NOOOOO!!!
(N.R) Gus Grissom nearly drowned, but a rescue helicopter
quickly saved Gus Grissom. Unfortunately, his
Space ship sank.
(Mr Stafford) [Happy] [Commanding] Okay guys,
Mr Grissom made it safely.
(CAPCOM) [Happily] [Cheering] [Disappointed] Yes! Our mission
was a big success and failure!
(Mr Stafford) [Determined] [Happily] I definitely agree! But now
John Glenn will actually do three orbits around earth.
(John Glenn) [Happily] I want to do it!!
(N.R) But they still had to figure out where
To LAND the space capsule….……
(N.R) So, Mary Jackson tries to solve it……
(Mary Jackson) [Determined] The calculations for the landing site
is 34757 divided by 4838.939 fractionated by 484737384 plus
4838483 fractionated by 48482 which is 333.435 degrees north, and 48584.483 degrees latitude, which is in the bahamas.
(Mr Stafford) [Impressed] Wow!
(Mr Harrison) [Happily] Wow, that’s it, that’s it! We need to land
the space capsule in the Bahamas!
(N.R) Soon, the Mercury space capsule and John
Glenn was ready for the orbits……
(CAPCOM) [Commanding] You will be using an Atlas rocket to fly,
not a redstone rocket.
(John Glenn) [Understanding] Ok, roger that, CAPCOM!
(CAPCOM) [Responding] Good, good. You are ready for the mission.
(John Glenn) [Excited] Thank you! Thank you! That is very good
news!
(Scott Carpenter) [Happy] Godspeed John Glenn!
(John Glenn) [Responding] Thank you!
(Mr Countdown) [Happy] [Excited] [Nervous] T-minus ten, nine,
eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one, liftoff! Engines have
ignited!
(S.T) Boooooooooooooooom!!!!!!!!
(Crowd) [Cheerfully] Yes! John Glenn is set off to make 3 orbits
around earth!
(Reporter) [Happy] And John Glenn is now officially in the clouds!
(CAPCOM) [Commanding] [Happy] Pitch 4953, the trajectory is
A-okay, the fuel is g. And how is the gravity buildup?
(John Glenn) [Responding] It is at seven.
(CAPCOM) [Commanding] Okay John Glenn you are ready for SECO.
(Second Stage Engine Cut Off)
(John Glenn) [Ready] Roger that, going for SECO!
(S.T) BOOOOOOOM!!!!!!
(John Glenn) [Happy] Zero gravity and I feel fine!
(John Glenn) [Happy] Oh that view is tremendous!
First orbit:
(CAPCOM) [Worried] Uh oh, the umm…the umm….heat shield came off.
(John Glenn) [Calm] Uum, okay..so what do we do?
(CAPCOM) [Commanding] We recommend that you do NOT, I
repeat NOT, jettison the retro packages.
(John Glenn) [Questioning] Is there a reason for this, over!
(CAPCOM) [Commanding] Not at the moment. This is the judgment of Cape flight.
(John Glenn) [Confused] [Nervous] Uh..roger that CAPCOM.
(N.R) There were chances that John Glenn
would burn up in the atmosphere,
Seeing the tremendous heat of the atmosphere…..
(John Glenn) [Choppy] CAPCOM CAPCOM You you are are going
going out out!
(CAPCOM) [Anxious] He is crossing the communication blackout
zone.
(S.T) Zzzaaappp, boooom zzzzaaaappp!!!!!
(CAPCOM) [Worried] John Glenn, do you copy? Over.

(John Glenn) [Happy] Engaging chutes in three, two, one, zero!
Chutes have engaged and beautiful chutes!
(S.T) SSSSSPPPPLLLLAAAASSSSHHH!!!!!
(Reporter) [Happy] John Glenn has splashed down safely, and is
being recovered by the destroyer U.S.S Noah.
(Crowd) [Happily] HOOOOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Narrator) After these events, Katherine Johnson, Mary
Jackson, and Dorothy Vaughan did calculations for the APOLLO 11 missions and helped put a man on the moon……..
(Neil Armstrong & Buzz Aldrin) [Happily] Tranquility base here, the Eagle has landed.
(CAPCOM) [Happy] Hooray!
